Al and Myrna Tubbs moved to De Witt in 1972 from Stillwater, Oklahoma after having grown up in Clinton County (Myrna, Clinton; Al, Elwood). Their two sons are graduates of Central Community High School, Brig in 1987, Abe in 1989. Al and Myrna have been strong supporters of community organizations, economic development, education, and the arts.
They believe that education holds the greatest potential for employment opportunities, improving quality of life, and elevating the middle class. While Al and Myrna both are college graduates (Myrna, B.S. Home Economics and Elementary Education, Iowa State University; Al, B.S. Agriculture, Iowa State University, M.S. & Ph.D., Agricultural Economics and Business, Cornell University), they understand that a four year degree is not for everyone.
Specialized or technical trade or skill can often times be the key to job opportunities and a rewarding career. This scholarship can be utilized in support of students completing certificate programs and purchasing items needed to complete the program as long as their course work has been completed and the items, such as tools or support for apprentice program for example, propel them on their way to completion of their certificate or associate’s degree.
