Carolyn Hilmers Ruggeberg Grant

“Any job worth doing is worth doing well” was a statement Carolyn Hilmers Ruggeberg said many times during her lifetime. She said it to her sons and students at Welton and Ekstrand Elementary School. Carolyn was the first secretary at Welton and Ekstrand schools. Education and children’s needs were always Carolyn’s first priority.

Carolyn Hilmers Ruggeberg was born April 1, 1927. She graduated from DeWitt High School and attended Mount Saint Clare College. Following her retirement from schools, Carolyn contitinued to volunteer as Iowanna 4-H leader, Frances Banta Waggoner Library, PEO, and United Church of Christ.

Carolyn married Kenneth Ruggeberg and partnered in farming. They raised two sons; Mark and John who continued to reflect their mother’s interest in education. John became a high school teacher and coach. Mark a high school administrator.

An endowment in Carolyn’s name will continue that legacy in education, a legacy to help elementary children in the Central Community Schools.
